Caving Experience - Auckland Staff Activity

Share a place of beauty and peace, far from the crowds. Enjoy gentle adventure exploring Nikau Cave – a kilometre of wonderful formations and thousands of glow-worms. As you stroll, climb and crawl your way through tunnels, you’ll be met by a cathedral-like display of natural underground wonders.

Nikau Cave is one kilometre long, has a stream running through it and is in its natural state. Most of the cave is open and spacious except for a ten-metre length, which must be crawled through. A wide variety of stalactites and stalagmites can be seen including giant pillars, fine straws and flowing shawls. The glowworms and their dewy threads may be studied up close.

In the big, cathedral-like cavern they resemble the night sky. At times you’ll stand awe-struck in glowworm filled caverns lined with stalagmites and stalactites thousands of years old. At other parts of the journey you’ll be on your hands and knees making your way along the bed of an ancient stream, filled with a sense of wonder and adventure.

This trip is not weather dependant.

Nikau caves are located at Waikaretu which is near Glen Murray so this trip is more suited to staff groups from upper North Island locations, NZ.
